Every year, Earth Month presents an opportunity for SunPower to engage with a wider audience than their existing customer base and educate on the topic they care about most: renewable energy.

Earth Month is also an opportunity to increase strong positive brand affiliation and make a meaningful impact on people’s lives with sustainable energy. In 2015, SunPower wanted the global community to help the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) provide power to over 7,200 indigenous people in a remote Colombian village. SunPower needed a way to engage with global citizens and allow them to share their photo, video, and testimonial from any device to capture the emotional and logical reasons why we #sharethesun.

 

Solution

Allowed SunPower to repurpose the content into an inspirational high definition video to launch on Earth Day

Through the Rivet platform, SunPower created a way for people worldwide to mobilize support for eco-friendly initiatives. The #sharethesun campaign allowed anyone with an Internet connection to submit high resolution photo and high definition video with long-form testimonial on how the sun powers their lives. With the help of a dynamic landing page created by Rivet, social reach, and an easy-to-use experience, SunPower and SELF were able to exceed their 100% media collection goal and provide electricity to the Sabana Crespo Village in Colombia.

Within the microsite, SunPower was able to display their progress towards 100% media collection in real time due to their direct API integration with Rivet. While curating media from social or other platforms could have raised quality and ownership issues, Rivet’s proprietary media collection and rights management features allowed SunPower to repurpose the content into an inspirational high definition video to launch on Earth Day.

 

Results

Exceeded their 100% media collection goal to provide electricity to the Sabana Crespo Village in Colombia.
